Gastronomy

If there is one thing that leaves visitors spellbound, it is the gastronomy of the Canary Islands. Its variety of typical dishes and fish straight from the sea to the table delight all those who visit Tenerife.

Arico is famous for its fish, honey, cheese and wine. An afternoon with these dishes will make you forget everything and you will be captivated by their flavour.

Our Products

Cheese

Since the time of the aborigines, Arico has been a land of good pasture for goats. The predominant breed is the “tinerfeña sur”, of great productivity and quality. This has provided an excellent raw material for our cheeses. The quality of this product has been demonstrated by the international awards with which some varieties of our cheeses have been recognised, including the title of best cheese in the world.

Quesería Hoyo del Cura

They are an artisan cheese factory run by a family that has been making cheese for more than 30 years. They have fresh, smoked, semi-cured and almogrote cheeses.

During these years they have received countless awards and distinctions such as the silver medal for fresh cheese.

You can contact them on 670 45 26 27. When you call, tell them that you are recommended by us, they will give you an excellent quality product.

Honey

Arico’s honey is one of the most traditional gastronomic products we have. The beekeeping tradition of the municipality has its origins in aboriginal times and has been preserved and consolidated to the present day. From the most traditional cork hives to the most modern ones, the production of our bees has specialised in getting the maximum flavour out of the flowers of Arico, from the lavender and barrilla of the coast to the broom of the summits. The honey of our beekeepers can be found in the supermarkets of the municipality and at the farmer’s market.

Wines

Arico has a rich tradition of excellent wines and its wineries are within the Abona denomination of origin. There are several companies involved in wine production: Bodega Cumbres de Abona, Bodega El Auchón, Bodega Leña Blanca and Bodega Chajaña. It also has restaurants that serve their own wine, such as Restaurant Bodega Pepe, Bar Central and Bar Restaurante Jerónimo. Some of our wines have won awards worldwide. The traditional grape varieties are listán blanco and negro and malvasía, improved with new varieties such as tempranillo, rubí cabernet, merlot, sirah and castellana. From the mixture of these varieties and the quality of our soils and the mild climate throughout the year, we obtain smooth and aromatic wines that are highly appreciated both nationally and internationally.
